Mumbai, Sep 7 - Telecom operator MTNL has tied up with Dell to offer 3G wireless Internet connectivity to users of laptops and netbooks manufactured by the PC maker.
The service, which will be made available in Mumbai and Delhi shortly, is available only on select range of Dell laptops and netbooks, a press release said.
By making the Internet easier to access and easier to afford, this partnership will fast-track the growth of India's online population while opening up new business frontiers in content development and e-commerce, MTNL Chairman and Managing Director R S P Sinha said in the release.
The move is an intention to tap into the fast growing 'always-on-the-move, always connected' population through this partnership.
The solution includes an embedded 3G Ericsson module with GPS and MTNL SIM on Dells select range of laptops and netbooks to give greater stability and data speeds. It also has a 3G pre-paid mobile broadband data package with national roaming facility from MTNL that eliminates the need for additional USB modem to connect to the web.
The data connection supports interactive services including high-speed Internet access with a download speed of up to 3.6 Mbps.
It has a start-up price of Rs 30,000 and would initially be offered on Dell's Inspiron Mini 10 netbook.
